Projects

Momentum

2026 | Solo hackathon, GDG on Campus Aberdeen

This was a hackathon I entered solo against teams of up to 3 people, where we were tasked with building a study companion around the open-weight Gemma model from Google. I had to plan, design and build the whole thing within 6 hours, then present it.

  • TypeScript
  • Next.js
  • API routes
  • Gemma

Networked chat with video

2026 | Group coursework

A Java chat client and server made for a university group project. We chose the transport per data type, so TCP for messages and file transfer where you cannot afford to lose anything, and UDP for live webcam frames where missed frames are less problematic. I wrote the file transfer side and worked on the architecture for the core connectivity.

  • Java
  • TCP/UDP sockets
  • Concurrency
  • JavaFX

Source is on the university's private GitLab and cannot be published.

Simple Shell in C

2025 | Group coursework

A simple UNIX shell made for a university group project. Process control with fork and exec, built-ins, user-defined aliases and a command history that sticks around between sessions. This is where I discovered the pain of segfaults in C, and learned how to track them down!

  • C
  • POSIX

Source is on the university's private GitLab and cannot be published.

Experience

Treasurer

GDG on Campus Strathclyde | Sep 2026 - present

I own the society's finances: the records, the budget, and income and expenditure across every event we run. I also prepare event budgets and funding applications, handle reimbursements, and coordinate with the Students' Union on financial procedure.

Shift Leader

Tesco, Glasgow (part-time) | Mar 2025 - present

I lead shifts on the floor, delegating work across the team and training new colleagues. I am also responsible for diagnosing and fixing faults in in-store systems, and monitoring store data to check that time-critical routines are completed properly.

Young STEM Leader

2023

Wrote and delivered hands-on science lessons for primary school pupils in my local area, including one on programming BBC micro:bits. Explaining a for-loop to a nine-year-old is still the hardest technical communication I have had to do!

About me

How I started

I have been coding since I was around 8 years old. When I would play games on the PS3 with my dad and brother I would always have so many questions as to how it all worked. One day, probably to stop me asking so many questions, I got given a set of Python coding books and the rest is history!

What I've built

Grademap is my first proper large-scale project, and most of what I know about shipping something real I learned building it. Before that I was making games on Roblox, some solo and some collaborations, which is where I got used to writing code other people would actually use. Since then it's been a mix; a chat app and a text editor in Python, Java and C applications for university, and a handful of websites for coursework and for myself.

Outside of code

Outside of coding, I like to keep both my body and mind active. I enjoy the gym and running, and recently completed a half marathon! I am a huge animal lover, especially cats (as you can tell from this site). I also love music, and have been playing the bass guitar for years now, even performing live at my university.

What I'm looking for

Right now I'm looking for a graduate software engineering role starting summer 2027, backend or full-stack, ideally somewhere I'd be writing production code early with people who'll review it properly. Happy to relocate.
